Marlin/Sailfish- Light Tackle

Magnetic Island and Townsville are situated right on the door step of the world famous Bowling Green Bay juvenile Black Marlin fishing grounds.  Between May and October, and peaking from July to September, you can experience some of the best light tackle Marlin fishing available anywhere.  This area is alive with Small Black Marlin up to 70kg and Sailfish up to 50kg.

If Marlin are the excitement you are looking for, but you don't want the long drawn out fight of a 1000 pound marlin, and just like the skill of light tackle fishing or catching them on the fly, then this will give you the thrill of a lifetime.  Juvenile Marlin also put on a spectacular aerial show - sometimes jumping 30 to40 times during the duration of a short fight.

Resident sailfish frequent the waters around Magnetic Island, Bowling Green bay and the local reef network.  Besides their spectacular fighting ability with great visual aerobatic displays these fish provide a memorable photo to take home when landed on board prior to release.

While waiting for that elusive Billfish to climb all over your lines, you will usually be kept busy with continuous single, and quite often multiple, hook ups on Spanish Mackerel, Cobia and Tuna.  Sometimes they're so thick we just have to drive away from them; so even if the Billfish are fickle you'll generally always go home with sore arms and a few nice fillets.

This day is for the whole family - or maybe a group of mates with whom you want to share a memorable days fishing. These trips are great for corporate bonding and having a client on
board a boat all day provides a great venue for doing business.

Everyone should catch at least one Marlin in their life.
